Charles Soule at C2E2 Talks Comics!
The Snarf Crew caught up with Charles Soule at C2E2 2021 in Chicago to talk about Swamp Thing, Daredevil, Star Wars, and all of his creator owned works as well!! Charles is one of our favorite writers of all time, and it was incredibly gratifying and incredibly gracious of him to allow us to interview him!
If you don’t know Charles Soule…be prepared to deep dive into one of the best authors working in the business right now. Whether it is comic books, or novels, Charles has something for everyone. He has a plethora of creator owned works with Image comics including Undiscovered County, Eight Billion Genies, and Curse Words. He is probably most well known for his unbelievable runs on some of the biggest Marvel and DC titles such as Swamp Thing and Daredevil.
Charles is also one of the most prolific Star Wars authors, including his New York Times Bestseller “Star Wars: Light of the Jedi”. He has a long career in Star Wars comics including, The High Republic, War of the Bounty Hunters, Darth Vader, and much more! He also has several other novels out including Anyone and The Oracle Year.
In this interview Charles talks in depth about his inspirations when working on fan fan-favorite comics like Swamp Thing and Daredevil. He talks about what its like to be next in line in an unbroken line of unbelievable authors including Len Wein, Grant Morrison, Alan Moore, Brian K Vaughan, and Scott Snyder. Charles discusses what it was like being the only actual attorney to write Daredevil (despite Chris being the only person not to know that!). This legal background was what gave him the confidence to take on the character, because he had something new to bring to the table- and his own original take on the character.
Chris and Charles discuss taking on the huge pop culture mantle of Star Wars! Charles talks about trusting his gut and treating the Star Wars universe as real people. He discusses how amazing it is to put his own stamp on something that is so important to so many people.
